Istanbul Spice Bazaar
The root of the word, "bazaar" is the Middle Persian (bahā-chār), meaning "place of prices." The spices here are priced in Turkish Lira/ 100 grams (1 Turkish Lira = about $.57 U.S). This picture also illustrates the miracle of markets. Then as now, availing themselves of vast trade networks, merchants sold in one place Turkish Saffron, Indian Curries and Nutmeg from the (Indonesian) Spice Islands.
